Yesterday, I decided to join my father in watching the Inter- Barangay Basketball Tournament at the town gymnasium. It has been a
long time since I have watched a basketball competition in our town. The second
encounter of the basketball team of my barangay with the team of Barangay
Siapar, the lone island barangay of our town in the finals was slated.
The tension was high in both parties as Tondol needs to
prevent its opponent to clinch the championship title and to extend the
competition game three series. On the other hand, Siapar team should stop its
rival in claiming the second championship title this year. The two teams are
battling on best of three series at finals.
When I and my father reached the place, my father prodded to
the game venue. Meanwhile, I stayed in the People’s Park to surf the net, check
my blog and to fix the Learner Information Profile (LIS) of my school and my
father’s advisory class. I was not too far from the sport event that I can hear
the cheer of the members of the audience.
I went to the venue during the middle part of the second
quarter. Tondol team was establishing its lead during that time. There are many
spectators who become boisterous when their favorite players gain points and
every time there are fouls committed.
Siapar had a hard time in the game especially in third quarter
when my barangay team catapulted its lead up to twenty- seven points. My fellow
barangay mates savored the moment which is evident in their gestures and loud
screams. In contrast, the other side was quiet as the struggling of the Siapar
team continued at the last part of the quarter.
The huge lead of my team was slowly diminished by the foe at
the early part of the fourth and last quarter. The tension escalated in this
quarter as the players in both teams committed fouls. From 27, the lead of
Tropang Tondol dropped to ten. At the last part of the quarter, the players of
my team made points through free throws. After four quarters, the team redeem
themselves as they conquered the game with the scores 98- 76. Thus, they have
the chance to defend the title on Friday, April 15, 2016.
Surely, the final game will
draw a big crowd as it is scheduled during the 12th Binongey
Festival of the town. By the way, the basketball tournament is also a part of the festival. The municipality scheduled the 2nd Anda Island Sports Tournament at this moment which different barangays are competing in various sports events.
To Tropang Tondol, congratulations! Win the championship
game. God bless!
